Elmer Ritter Rusco papers, 1861-2004.

Research notes, legal documents, correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, and other materials chiefly relating to Rusco's historical studies of minority groups, (chiefly African Americans, Chinese, Hispanics, and Native Americans), and the development of civil rights laws in Nevada during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. There is also some material relating to Nevada "Silver Era" politics of the 1890s and to Rusco's family and their activities while living in Floriston, Calif., in the 1960s and early 1970s.

Elmer R. Rusco received his academic training in political science. He attended the University of Kansas, receiving his B.A. in 1951, and his M.A. in 1952. He continued his schooling at the University of California, Berkeley, earning his Ph.D. in 1960. His doctoral dissertation entitled, Machine politics, California model : Arthur H.
